The Holocaust and Growth Through Suffering

There is darkness in everyone's life.

No one is immune to the trials and tribulations of tragedy and suffering. No one. At one point or another, each of us must grapple with the fact that things are simply not going the way we would want them to. In fact, it may even be that our most dreaded nightmare has become a reality.

Yet, the darkest part of the night is the moment just before dawn. And if we realize that, then in the very midst of our darkness we may be able to find the wherewithal to live as if we were basking in the rays of dawn.

Darkness Before Dawn is a book about suffering, how to appreciate suffering and how to grow from suffering. Proceeding with the assumption that the community is simply a larger version of the individual, it discusses the reasons behind the history of suffering the Jewish people have had to endure. Ultimately, the tragedy of the Holocaust is discussed and then presented in a fresh new light. The end result is a document that helps each of us grapple with and overcome the personal holocaust we may be suffering.

The author, Ezriel Tauber, is himself a survivor of the Holocaust. Although just a young boy at the time, he lived to learn at the feet of Rabbi Michoel Dov Weissmandel zt"l, one of the rare handful of acknowledged, genuine Torah giants who survived.
